SwankoLab App Reviews

Meh

Its okay. I dont like that you dont see what youre choosing when adding effects. Or that you cant save your own formulas.

Most helpful reviews are wrong.

You CAN save your own formulas. (After developing: tap the pencil and paper icon in the middle on the photo in the drying rack, name your formula and save.) You CAN export high quality photos. (In iOS Settings > Swankolab > Developing > High Quality Prints > On.) All I want though, is a Universal version. I dont like photo editing on my phone. I could load up the iPhone version on here but I hate the size and pixel doubling. Please update with this soon.

Fun App

You guys rock, hang in there, keep it Hipsta. Buy the App

Ugly Icon

Seriously, do something with it.

Hesitantly Coming Back

Upgrading my review to three stars for now, just because this app is so dusty and Im still skeptical about the developers intentions after ignoring this red-headed stepchild for so long. Update is a welcome breath of fresh air and I love the new chemicals. Love the live preview very, very, very much and I look forward to Swankolab being welcomed back into the embrace of Synthetics family. Fingers crossed for many more, and more frequent updates in the future. Also, where did Fantabra Magic Warm go? You guys pulling a sneaky Instagram filter switch on us? I am still kinda cranky about being this app being ignored for so long though. The developers make great fanfare about it coming back, but not one word or recognition that they left it alone so long. A little humbleness guys? I very much want to love this app again, but as they say: once bitten, twice shy. Previous Review: The developers have also not touched this app since 2010, despite actively updating their other cash-cow app Hipstamatic. I am very disappointed in the lack of updates to Swankolab since I paid for the $2 subscription on the stated promise of more updates. I do not recommend this app and have removed it from my screen. This further reinforces my belief that the Synthetic team is indeed "synthetic" and fake. Thanks for taking my money.

Close, but...

Nice update and all, but not really worth it without iPhone 5 screen support. Not to me, anyways.

Fine tuning ..

This app is probably one of the coolest I own - apps looks great, prints come out awesome, etc. However. There are some misses and inconsistencies that make this less than a joy to use all the time like I use Hipstamatic. When shooting with Swanko your print is square, but if you import from your camera roll it stays rectangular. This annoys me because I think all prints processed in the same app should look consistent (like Hipstamatic or Instagram). Also when uploading to Facebook theres nowhere to describe your print and thats a big miss for me. The whole point of social media / photo sharing is to describe your experience and share it with others. I dont want my friends and family to have to try and guess what my photos are. Granted, you can save your processed prints to your camera roll then upload through FB, but I like the one-stop-shop of doing it all through the app Im using at the time. Will definitely raise my star rating if I see any of these things improved!

Fun

Fun app. Glad I bought it. Love the updates made, but Id love to see you add a pair of scissors as a cropping tool. I also agree that the app icon needs an updated fresh look that matches the retro-feel of the app itself.

No iPhone5 support...

App is pretty cool. Filters are fun to mess with. interface is friendly but lacks iphone 5 support. Will up stars once that happens.

Skewmorphic design fail

A perfect example of out of control skewmophic design. So much attention is paid to mimicking reality ("mixing chemicals" "drying prints" that the actual function of the app is clumsy/slow/frustrating. We just want to try cool filters on our tints. Why make it do complex?

Absolutely love!!!

This is one the best photo editing apps on my iPod I have ever used.

500+ Apps Later, Still My #1

I have had Swankolab a few years now, since its initial release, actually. Its the first app I ever downloaded. Back then, to my phone, but Ive got it on the iPad now, too. Ive purchased and/or downloaded about five hundred some-odd apps since then and I can honestly say that without a doubt, this one is my absolute favorite. I confess, I do have a number of favorites, but this one is my guilty pleasure. The colorful interface is engaging and the process is, well, charming. I also purchased all of the in-store chemicals; they were definitely worth the extra purchase. I do wish the developer would expand this app some more, maybe another small media push, too. It certainly deserves exposure.

Interesting, fun to tinker with, saves at full/original resolution!

After finding the hidden "gem" to switch to original resolution saves instead of the default 0.3mp saves, I was a much happier camper. This app is fun to play with, although for those that want a "run & gun" post-processing app that does all the work for you, you will be disappointed. There are plenty of those out there, but this one is different. This app takes time, to learn and use, is flexible in content and in workflow, and you have the choice of doing all the work or using a handful of Rx recipes provided. Im not sure if there is a way to share receipes with other users, but if not, that would be a very cool feature indeed. Other very cool features would be to be able to change the type of paper being used, and to adjust the initial image exposure and crop, (as you might do with an enlarger), and be able to adjust the developing time the prints stay in the soup. For now, Ill temporarily abandon all of my one-step preset post-processing apps, and learn a little nit more anout concoting the solutins to make my images look the way I want them to look.

Bringing back old school

I love that it allows you to "develop" your own picture. I remember shooting with film in high school for photography class and getting to develop my art in a dark room. Brings back that old school feel. Kinda :) BUT..... It wont let me make in app purchases to buy the rest of the chemicals for the lab. Fix this. I hate being limited to the very little that it has.

Cute App

Its very limited, but its fun for changing some of your photo effects.

Love!

I am having so much fun with the Swanko Lab, especially in combination with my photos from Hipstamatic. Its a much more organic and engaging way to touch-up photos because it isnt precise. You get to play with chemicals and see what develops. I like the ambient sound in the app which puts you in a different mental environment. The app is a fun, immersive escape, and it shows promise if getting even better with future updates. Im using ios5.1.1 on ipod touch 4g, no bugs.

iPhone 5 Support

Please bring iPhone support!!! Ill give you 5

Awesome!

I love ALL Hipstamatic apps! They are my ultimate favorite and have the best quality for results! I am always looking for new paks and effects!!! Thank you so much!!!

Crashes

Id like to be able to give a good review, but I cant get the app to open. Stop sniffing the chemicals Synthetic!

Upgrade to iOS 7 or Im deleting.

We has the Legacy of Hipstamatic which I love! And, Oggl which is insanely brilliant. So...Will this upgrade? Any use for this or??
